Definition Of A Diva?

Megastar Beyonce sings; “A Diva is the female version of a hustler…”

That may be true… But, the word Diva is typically used to define a spoilt, selfish and difficult woman who’s high maintenance and highly opinionated. Mainstream media often refers to difficult celebs and combative women as divas. They’re also labeled as narcissists and Prima-donnas.

In English however, a diva is a celebrated female singer; a woman of outstanding talent in the world of opera, theatre, cinema and popular music. It is derived from the Italian noun diva, a female deity. The basic sense of the term is goddess.

In my personal opinion; A diva is a person (most likely a female) who defines their own journey and destiny. You’re not ashamed to be yourself, whatever the occasion. You don’t bow down to pressure or change your personality to “fit in”.

You follow your own path, your dress sense is not defined by the latest glossy magazine, neither is your hairdo. Being a diva is about defining yourself as an individual- who and what you want to be, how you want to be perceived, not in fantasy, but in reality. You know your worth; possess dignity, self-respect and most importantly, class. You don’t wear a mask. Yet, you’re not arrogant or selfish and you’re aware that the Universe doesn’t revolve around you.

You create a gold-paved, diamond studded path and strut on it with your 6-inch red stilettoes. However, one should not mistake this amazing individual for a desperate attention-seeker who believes they can walk on water. Or a blonde-haired, blue-eyed bimbo with a DD cup size and a 6-inch waist.

To summarize this lengthy description; A DIVA is a woman who is on top of her game. In all spheres of life; Education, family, work... When she does something, she does it to the best of her abilities. Yet, she’s not perfect and therefore always looking for ways to better herself.
